Rural communities in Costa Rica have considerable need for funding for community projects such as road improvement, school expansion, agricultural training, and drinking water supply. Nonetheless, information about possible sources of funding is often scattered, confusing, and unavailable to local communities. For this reason, the SCLC is working on a project funding database for local community use. This database will have information on funding sources, procedures, deadlines, and interests. The database also will include international sources of funding in addition to sources within Costa Rica. Additionally, by bringing community leaders together to share project experiences through our community development committee, the SCLC hopes to promote cooperative planning and information exchange. With the support of the SCLC in facilitating information and helping to provide maps, communities will be able to improve their project proposals and make them more attractive to potential funders.
