The Women’s Group consists of adolescent and adult women who meet at the SCLC every Saturday. The group provides these women with a place to meet, share information, and learn new skills through art. They have produced a variety of artwork including jewelry, tote bags, paintings, and recycled paper. The women also develop income-generating projects such as jewelry-making and a cookbook featuring local recipes. Other projects include a medicinal plant garden that will be used to make cosmetic products like shampoos, creams, and soaps.
The Women’s Group sells jewelry and cookbooks at the art gallery at the SCLC and at some local souvenir shops. Individual women receive a majority of the profits from their sales and the remainder goes to the group for project use.
