Hello from Heather Mason, the Becados Scholarship Program Coordinator at the SCLC. I'm very excited to be here in beautiful Sarapiquí, and to be a part of this truly important Becados program.

With your donation we are able to program educational activities and field trips for our 30 high school scholarship students. In the last few months here at CECOS, Becados students have worked to organize, categorize, and catalogue a new donation of over ten tons of books for the library. Also they have participated in a river clean-up rafting trip (generously donated by our friends at Aventuras del Sarapiqui) where students learned about recycling, team-work and respect for the natural environment. On this outing our Becados collected over eight bags of garbage!

In the upcoming months we hope to participate in a variety of community events, including a dance and an SCLC fundraiser.

We are trying hard to integrate our high school scholarships even more with environmental and community development activities. Our basic goal is to help produce a new generation of local leaders with a strong sense of social and environmental responsibility. If you would like to help CECOS provide this and other vital programs to the community of Sarapiqui, please act now!

It is important to all involved in the center, not just the Becados, that the SCLC continues to have the means to offer these significant services to the community of Sarapiqui. You can make a difference, even if you are not able to volunteer directly here in our center. Be creative! Share the SCLC with your friends and family. Start a CECOS supply drive box in your workplace, church, or community center. The SCLC needs your help to empower the future leaders of Costa Rica.
