The earthquake that struck Costa Rica in early January was of devastating consequences to communities, infrastructures and ecosystems throughout the whole country. The La Paz Waterfall Gardens were no exception to this, and the falls, which have become an iconic symbol of Costa Rican biodiversity and beauty, were left in devastation after the quake.

Congratulations English Students! |

The SCLC is proud to announce the successful completion of another semester of English classes. About 75 students “walked the stage” at the graduation ceremony on December 11, 2008, celebrating the end of another year. The ceremony was punctuated with a distribution of graduation certificates and a group rendition of the band Kansas’ “Dust in the Wind,” a class favorite. The ceremony was followed by a potluck-style reception where students socialized, enjoyed snacks, and maybe even practiced their English.

2008 Annual Report Now Available |

It’s been an exciting and promising year here at the SCLC! There has been great progress and many achievements in our programs, along with exciting and rewarding plans for the future.
In 2008 we have successfully completed 67 service projects in support of our surrounding communities; we’ve begun recycling projects in nearby neighborhoods and implemented the Give a Book Project which provides local schools with books in Spanish, math packs and language books. Our efforts affect hundreds of people each year.
