Although high school is free in Costa Rica, the associated costs of books, transportation, uniforms and supplies often make it impossible for poorer students to attend and graduate high school. The SCLC firmly believes that education is key for sustainable development, and the Scholarship Program works to that end to create as many educational opportunities as possible for the youth of Sarapiquí.

The SCLC Scholarship Program supports students’ higher education through the generous support of our donors. Donors contribute $325 each year for six years to support a high school education, or $500 a year for a university scholarship. Donors correspond regularly with their student through letters and photos, and make an immense difference in the lives of students and the Sarapiquí communities. Many former scholars are now studying in university or working meaningful jobs with steady incomes.
