The SCLC is looking for a volunteer to run our after school programs Monday through Thursday.  The public school system in rural Costa Rica provides students with only three hours of classes a day due to limited educational resources, including a lack of teachers and inadequate classroom space. To supplement their education, the SCLC runs a daily after-schoolprogram for children ages 7-12 and an Eco-Club for dis-advantaged teens. Our after-school programs focus on environmental themes and include activities that are not currently offered in school, such as art, science, journal writing, reading and physical education.  The ASP Coordinator works with three local schools, and must be fluent in Spanish and have teaching. experience.

 

 

 

Job Description 

 

  • Maintain 2 environmental education based After-school Programs for students ages 7 – 12
  • Continue weekly Eco-Club and promote sustainable living
  • Develop and conduct programs for students that integrate environmental concepts into activities and subjects such as art, movement, computers, reading, math, geography, social science and daily life
  • Develop semester goals, objectives andactivities that ensure SCLC is completing its mission of conservation awareness
  • Incorporate English into lessons weekly
  • Promote conflict resolution techniques such ascommunication and class discussions
  • Provide a safe and positive environment forlearning
  • Provide supplementary education opportunities for local school children
  • Act as the liaison between the elementaryschool’s and the SCLC
  • Communicate with teachers and school directors to exchange information about integrated lessons plans, activities, andschedules
  • Work with the SCLC staff by contributing to extra circular activities as needed
 
Job Requirements 

 

  • Advanced-level Spanish and English
  • Experience teaching and managing children (K –6) in classroom and outdoor setting
  • Experience teaching environmental educationand developing curriculum and programs
  • Enjoy working with children
  • CPR, or First Aid certification
  • Leadership skills
  • Comfortable in a high energy work environment
  • Creativity
  • Ability to work on own and as part of a team
