Environmental Education Coordinator |
Dates of position: July 2010 until December 2010
Job Description
• Develop environmental education programs to meet established semester goals of environmental education program.
• Conduct weekly environmental education programs for 4 local schools for elementary age students.
• Communicate regularly with directors and teachers of local schools
• Re-establish weekly ecology clubs at SCLC for children attending 5th – 6th grade from local schools.
• Coordinate school visits and programs for tourists with the SCLC community development coordinator.
• Support After-School Program Coordinator with environmental curriculum development, including assisting with classes when needed.
• Conduct a minimum of one environmental based program for the public each month at the center.
• Manage SCLC compost and recycling programs.
• Participate in regional environmental education meetings with other conservation organizations.
• Develop goals and objectives for second semester of environmental education program.
• Assist with management of SCLC garden space.
• Provide support and education to staff about local environmental issues and projects.
Job Requirements
• Fluency in Spanish
• Knowledge of environmental concepts, especially those related to water, forestry, waste management, biodiversity, agriculture and tropical ecology
• Experience teaching environmental education
• Experience working with children and youth
• Experience with program and curriculum development
• Experience or interest in working in rural setting
• Computer skills, GIS a plus
• Experience conducting presentations
• Ability to work independently
• Physically fit (This person is required to bike 30 mins. on average or more one way to get to schools where they will conduct programs)
